The Man with the Golden Helmet, 1650 by Rembrandt. Like so many of Rembrandt’s greatest works the Man in the Golden Helmet has been on too many calendars, tablemats and postage stamps to be generally taken as the gravely serious work that it is. It can either be interpreted as a tired but dignified old man dressed in a golden helmet, in order to give the artist an excuse to paint the object.. The Man with the Golden Helmet (c. 1650) is an oil on canvas painting formerly attributed to the Dutch painter Rembrandt and today considered to be a work by someone in his circle. It is an example of Dutch Golden Age painting and is now in the collection of the Gemäldegalerie, Berlin. This painting was documented by Hofstede de Groot in 1915.

ART & ORGANISM . The Man with the Golden Helmet, “… an 18th-century painting attributed to Rembrandt, was Berlin’s most famous artwork for decades. Once evidence emerged, in the 1980s, that the painting was not by Rembrandt, it lost much of its artistic and economic value, even though the artwork itself had not changed (1).Quality in art is elusive; art appeals to individual senses..
